Wine Tasting and Class

April 4th, 6:30pm-8:30pm

This class will introduce you to a few of the major grape varieties and wine regions. We'll make stops in Bordeaux, Burgundy, California, South America, Italy, and Spain. We will demystify the magic in a very down-to-earth way. We'll talk about how to taste and what to look for in a wine. Fruit, earth, wood? What kind of fruit and what different sorts of earthy flavors and aromas are there?

In a couple short (and fun) hours, you will cover a variety of regions and grapes and be well on your way.  What's different about Pinot Noir in Burgundy vs. Oregon? What grapes are grown in Bordeaux?

The best way to learn about wine is to taste, so we'll be tasting 8 wines from 8 different areas.

Whiskey Tasting and Class

April 11th, 6:30pm-8:30pm

Join Maslow 6 and Elana Effrat, spirits portfolio manager from Martin Scott, to raise funds for the Church Street School for Music and Art. Experience the new world of whiskey production through drams of Americas' awarded innovators and Scotland's' newest distilleries. Learn about the differences between traditional Scotches to the new frontier of American Bourbons. From grain to glass, to merchant bottlings, the evening will explore terroir driven spirits and what makes it a whiskey or a whisky.

Elana Effrat has been called a ‘Spirits Guru’ and recognized in a national publication for her commitment to supporting craft distilleries. She holds intermediate and advanced certificates in wine, as well as a spirits certificate, from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, passing all with distinction. Her love for the history, process and taste keeps her seeking out the best the world has to offer.
